GUIDE FOR AUTHORS

Science, Engineering & Education is a specialized scientific edition aiming to establish a bridge between science and education and presenting original research results in the field of technical sciences, physics, mathematics, electrical and electronic engineering, informatics, applied mechanics, humanities and sport sciences.

The articles published in Science, Engineering & Education refer to:

Physics, Mechanics, Electrical Engineering (electrical, optical and mechanical properties of

condensed matter; modelling of the properties of solids and fluids; applied mechanics, theoretical

and practical research in electrotechnics);

Mathematics, Informatics, Automation (investigation of the computational mathematics; information technologies, process control, intelligent systems and diagnosis);

Management, Humanities, Sports (business and management; quality and methodology of education; advances and development of the foreign language tuition; different educational techniques and approaches in the tuition of sports).

Science, Engineering & Education publishes full-length research papers, critical and book reviews. Research papers are expected to be complete and authoritative accounts of work that has significance and interest, presented clearly and concisely. Authors intending to offer critical reviews are invited first to contact the Editor-in-Chief.

Contributions will be considered if (i) the authors declare that the data they present is new

and has not been published or submitted elsewhere; (ii) they have to be relevant to the topics

pointed above. Presentation and discussion should be at the level of the Journal status gained. The

language can be a reason for rejection if below an acceptable level of clarity. Detailed descriptions

of the equipment used should only be given if the latter is new. Papers reporting experimental data

without adequate interpretation are not acceptable.

Contributions will be accepted for publication only on the recommendation of referees.

Manuscript preparation

It is important that the file be saved in the native format of the word processor used. All contributions should be typed, double-spaced, 12-pt font. All pages must be numbered in sequence.

Most formatting codes will be removed and replaced on processing the article. In particular,

do not use the word processor’s options to justify text or to hyphenate words. However, do use bold

face, italics, subscripts, superscripts, etc. Do not embed graphically designed equations or tables,

but prepare these using the word processor’s facility. When preparing tables, if you are using a table

grid, use only one grid for each individual table and not a grid for each row. If no grid is used, use

tabs, not spaces, to align columns.

Essential title page information

Title. It should be concise and informative. Titles are often used in information-retrieval systems. Avoid abbreviations and formulae where possible.

Author names and affiliations. The names of the authors have to be clearly indicated. Present the authors’ affiliation addresses (where the actual work was done) below the names. Provide the full postal address of each affiliation, including the country name.

Corresponding author. Clearly indicate who will handle correspondence at all stages of refereeing and publication, also post-publication. Ensure that phone numbers (with country and area code) are provided in addition to the e-mail address and the complete postal address. Contact details must be kept up to date by the corresponding author.

Present/permanent address. If the author has moved since the work described in the article was done, or was visiting at the time, a “Present address” (or “Permanent address”) may be indicated as a footnote to that author’s name. The address at which the author actually did the work must be retained as the main, affiliation address. Superscript Arabic numerals are used for such footnotes.

Abstract. A concise and factual abstract is required. The abstract should state briefly the

purpose of the research, the principal results and major conclusions. An abstract is often presented

separately from the article, so it must be able to stand alone. For this reason, References should be avoided, but if essential, then cite the author(s) and year(s). Also, nonstandard or uncommon abbreviations should be avoided, but if essential they must be defined at their first mention in the abstract itself.

Article structure

Introduction

State the objectives of the work and provide an adequate background. Avoid a detailed literature survey or a summary of the results.

Experimental

Provide sufficient details to allow the work to be reproduced. Methods already published should be indicated by a reference: only relevant modifications should be described.

Results and Discussion

Results and the discussion provided should be clear and concise.

Conclusions

The main conclusions of the study have to be presented in a short Conclusions section.

Acknowledgements

Acknowledgements are given in a separate section at the end of the article before the references.

References

References should be cited in the text by an Arabic numeral in square brackets, listed numerically and typed double-spaced on a separate sheet at the end of the paper. References should be arranged in the order in which they appear in the text. Journal titles should be abbreviated according to the latest Chemical Abstracts Service Source Index. Only articles that have been published or are in press should be included in the references. Unpublished results should be cited as such in the text. References in non-English language should be translated in English. The original language must be shown in brackets. In the reference list, the styling, punctuation and capitalization should be as follows:

Formulae

Formulae should be typewritten (Equation Editor) with ample space around them. The meanings of all symbols have to be given immediately after the equation in which they are first used. Equations should be sequentially numbered (on the right side of the equation and in parentheses). Subscripts and superscripts should be clearly indicated. Greek letters and other non-Latin symbols should be typed using Times New Roman Gr or Symbols.

Units

Units should be given in SI system. They should be in the form, e.g. g cm^-1 rather than g/cm.

Figures

Figures should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. All figures should be supplied on separate sheets. All illustrations must be readable when reduced to a width of 75 mm (single column figure) or 160 mm (double column figure). Photographs, charts and diagrams are all to be referred to as “Figures(s)” and should be numbered consecutively in the order to which they are referred. They should accompany the manuscript, but should not be included within the text. All illustrations should be clearly marked with the figure number. Figure captions should be typed double-spaced on a separate sheet. Figures should not include text. Graphic files should be in TIFF or JPG with resolution not less than 300 dpi.

Tables

Tables should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals in the order of appearance in the text. Each table should be given on separate sheet with a short descriptive title directly above it, with essential footnotes below.

One copy of the manuscript in English with a set of original illustrations must be submitted.

The manuscript should be written with true-type font Times New Roman size 12 with double line

spacing. Manuscripts of papers submitted to the journal will not be sent back to the authors.
